‘’A craft that is most valued throughout the world, shoemaking is still in its development in Macedonia. Every pair of shoes is hand-made. Every pair is made by a small batch of individuals who give their best so that every shoe gets its own soul, something that makes it special and separates it from the rest. Maybe that’s why the shoe needs to choose who will wear it.’’

During the 1950’s Slavko’s son Branko became involved as well. Through the years, the trends had changed and the store modernized and became more sophisticated in order to meet those trends. The business grew, as well as Branko’s progress, because he was always helping his dad around the store since he was a little child. That encouraged him to create many valuable shoe models that would go on to become one of the best in Yugoslavia at that time.
In 1965, one of the biggest shoe manufacturer in Yugoslavia was stationed in Kumanovo, the famous “CIK” factory. Branko started working there as a shoe modeler at first, but quickly rose through the ranks and at the end became the CTO (Chief Technical Officer) of the company. His reign lasted 16 years. In 1978 he was awarded the ‘’Golden Shoe’’ for exquisite elegance and quality at the Zagreb Shoe Fair.
In 1990 Branko opened his own little workshop, the one that has grown to be today’s Schuster.
Slavko, the son of Trajan also became part of the family business at this time. He worked his way through the company. At first he was an apprentice. In 1927 he became a helper and after Trajan’s death in 1947, he became the master craftsman of the store.
Trajan was the first successor of Gjorgji. He represented the second generation. Around 1896 he opens a footwear store in Kumanovo. The use of machines would firstly be introduced in 1919 thus optimizing the process of making the finest footwear possible at that time.
The story of this renowned brand starts with the humble beginnings of the shoemaking craft in Macedonia around 1885. Arguably, torn by many difficult situations throughout history the craft of making genuine handmade footwear was at its utmost beginnings at those times.
Gjorgji was the first one from the family who started perfecting shoemaking. He was the representative of the first generation, the anchor who inspired his sons to continue his steps, thoroughly building a brand that throughout the years has become a synonym for footwear in Macedonia.
